Tributes to José Lins do Rego and Fla
Lunch in memory of the red-black writer was attended by Ronaldinho Gaúcho

The Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL) had a red-and-black day this Monday (11.04). A lunch, held in honor of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Academician José Lins do Rego, the most red-and-black of writers, brought to the ABL the president of Flamengo Patricia Amorim, the coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo and the star Ronaldinho Gaúcho.
The ABL's immortals presented the Machado de Assis medal, the institution's highest honor, to President Patricia Amorim. Besides Amorim, Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Vanderlei Luxemburgo were also honored.
"José Lins do Rego was the immortal who best knew how to translate what it means to be a Flamengo fan in his writings. On behalf of the club, I thank everyone for their presence. There's always room for one more tribute in our gallery. Flamengo feels immortal for its fans and everything it has," thanked Patricia Amorim, who was moved when she read an excerpt from a text by the writer, referring to the 1954 Rio de Janeiro championship.
In addition to the president, Luxa and R10, the ceremony was attended by executive director Luiz Augusto Veloso, great benefactor Walter Oaquim and the chairman of the Board of Directors Mauricio de Mattos.
Marcos Vilaça, Academic and president of the ABL, said that today's tribute encompassed the two passions of José Lins do Rego.
"Zé Lins left a body of work that has definitively marked Brazilian literature, placing it among the classics of the Northeastern cycle. He was truly an academic with two passions: literature and football. He left a book of chronicles entirely dedicated to Flamengo," concluded Vilaça.
