The second edition of the National Rubro-Negro Blood Campaign begins on January 25th. The initiative aims to encourage the club's fans to contribute to blood banks across the country. The donation period runs from January 25th to 30th, during the holiday season, when blood banks typically experience shortages.

The campaign, an initiative of Flamengo's Marketing Department in partnership with the Cidadão Rubro-Negro program, has official support from the Ministry of Health: "As we begin a new year, having the current Brazilian champion and its fans engaged in such a noble cause as donating blood is a great incentive for our work at the Ministry of Health. It demonstrates that Flamengo and its fans have embraced this gesture of love for life as a commitment. More than that, they set an example of persistence, a quality so significant in the club's history and, now, also in the dissemination of the Ministry of Health's National Blood Donation Campaign," said Health Minister José Gomes Temporão.

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, together with Cidadão Rubro-Negro, invites all fans to donate life: "Sport is an effective tool for developing citizenship and Flamengo undoubtedly has a lot to contribute to the national blood donation campaign. Rubro-Negro fans, donate blood and save lives!" says Flamengo president Patricia Amorim.

Flamengo fans interested in collaborating with this campaign by helping with the organization in their city should contact us at campanha@cidadaorubronegro.com.br. The idea is to "color" all blood centers red and black during donation day.

At Hemorio, the donation site in Rio de Janeiro on January 29th, the club's official mascots, the Charanga Rubro-Negra, will be present, as well as possible appearances by athletes and famous red-and-black fans. At the collection points, it will also be possible to register for the Cidadão Rubro-Negro project. Other key players in the campaign are the Embassies of the Nation, official club representations in various parts of the country.

In each city, the campaign will be concentrated on one day during this period to facilitate the concentration of Flamengo fans. The campaign calendar will soon be published on the website http://mkt.flamengo.com.br/hotsite/sanguerubronegro/, and you can now see the registered donation locations throughout Brazil.

The campaign's official website provides important information, such as who can donate and how to donate, as well as an interaction area: donors can submit photos and videos and participate through the campaign's Orkut and Twitter communities.

The first edition of the campaign took place in August 2009 and helped increase the number of donors during this critical period due to the limited availability of donors. The campaign gained momentum through the combination of two similar initiatives already in place. At different times, the club's Marketing Department encouraged donations at the Rio de Janeiro blood center, while the Embassies promoted the same in some Brazilian states.
