"It took four, five years for it to sink in"
Marinho talks about what it was like to be a world champion with Flamengo, but he can't define what the title means.

Being a World Cup winner is the ultimate achievement for a club. And Marinho, from Paraná, achieved it. And for Brazil's most beloved team, Flamengo. After starting his career with Londrina, his hometown team, the defender was signed a year before the 1980 World Cup triumph at the request of Claudio Coutinho, the mentor of that incredible team. Now, 30 years after reaching his peak with Flamengo, the number 13 reveals that it took a while for him to realize it back then. Perhaps it hasn't even sunk in yet.
Moved by the tributes to the 30th anniversary of the club's greatest achievement, Marinho recounted his feelings when the referee blew the final whistle against Liverpool. That crucial match, in which he barely had to work.
"Actually, I was worried about what was happening here in Rio de Janeiro. We had to seize that unique opportunity. Getting there is very difficult, and thank God, we managed to win. I just imagined what it would be like to be here. In fact, I think it took about four or five days for it to sink in," revealed Marinho, who hasn't forgotten his former teammates and eternal friends.
"We made good friends in that group. I miss everyone so much."
When trying to define what that 1981 World Cup-winning Flamengo team was like, the former Flamengo defender faltered. He was at a loss for words, thought, but couldn't come up with a definition. Perhaps nostalgia, the desire to go back in time, took over.
"It's very difficult. There's no way to define it. Time passes so quickly that you don't even notice," he concluded.
