More mature, Camacho hopes for an outcome like that of 2009

Coming off some great seasons in the youth teams, Guilherme de Aguiar Camacho, then 19, was promoted to Flamengo's professional team in 2009. Still very young and unfamiliar with the rhythm of the main team, he played 10 Brasileirão matches and, through ups and downs, was part of the six-time champion squad. These moments gave him the maturity to become a trusted option for coach Rogério Lourenço in 2010.
After a difficult start to the year, when he had few opportunities (he played only two games, a friendly against Brasília FC, where he scored a goal, and the last round of the qualifying phase of the Taça Rio, against Friburguense, where he had a direct participation in an own goal by the opponent), the young midfielder began to be used when his former commander in the youth academy took over the team and gave him an opportunity against Grêmio Prudente.
"I wasn't expecting this chance. I was training hard and staying in shape, trying to prepare myself in the best way possible if this opportunity arose. But I really wasn't expecting it, especially because I hadn't even been selected for games and had started playing in the junior team again," says Camacho.
But the opportunity arose, he performed well, and he then had three more chances to prove his talent before the World Cup break. Of Flamengo's seven Brazilian Championship matches, he participated in four, one of which he was unable to play due to a suspension. Happy with the opportunity, he thanks his manager and reveals his expectations for the future in an interview with Flamengo's official website.

Golden chance - I can only be grateful for this opportunity. Rogério is a great coach, and now, with this training period, he has everything he needs to better implement his work. He did very well in the youth academy; I won some titles with him, and now I believe I've been doing well, doing what he asks, and trying to help the team.
Reinforcements – They're talking about a lot of players who could come, and I hope they do, to add value and bring more quality to the group. The squad benefits greatly from the arrival of reinforcements, and so do I. Especially because they're new people from whom I can learn.
Petkovic – Petkovic is a Flamengo idol and a great player in my position. I learn a lot from him every day, and it was great to have the opportunity to play alongside him.
Vacation - I won't be able to enjoy it much. I suffered a groin injury and I want to see if I can recover from it in this time so I can be back at full strength on the 100th and have a good offseason.
Interseason – I believe this time will be crucial. It's always good to have time to train. That hasn't been happening before. Playing mid-week and on weekends, there's not much time to do, especially with so many absences. But now those who were injured will recover, the group will evolve, and I think it will be incredibly beneficial for Flamengo to have this peace of mind to work.
Hexa – That campaign was definitely a learning experience. It was a historic title, and I'm very happy to have been involved. Last year, I wasn't as comfortable with the professional scene as I am this year. I think I'm more confident now. In 2009, I had just moved up, and that set me back a bit.
Base generation – I think this generation can help a lot. Willpower and hard work will never be lacking. Now, Saba and Galhardo, who also played last year, have moved up. There are two other players who can also perform well. You just need to be patient.
