Patrícia Amorim officially takes over as Flamengo president on January 4th, the first business day of 2010. It will mark the end of the Márcio Braga era at the club, following the club's victory in the Brazilian Championship. The current Flamengo president, now 73, said this Thursday that he does not intend to run for the position again in the future.

"I don't see the need. In '92, when I finished my term, I had retired. I returned after 12 years to save Flamengo in a situation they put us in, and we were champions. Patrícia Amorim, I want to make it clear, I will always be there to help her, always ready for Flamengo. She can count on me like a soldier. Now, I don't see the need to return to the presidency," he declared in an interview with Rádio Brasil.

The transition process in the club's presidency has already begun. Braga met with Patrícia Amorim to brief the new president on the club's current situation, particularly regarding ongoing projects.

"The meeting was very successful in helping the transition process proceed smoothly. We began addressing the various pending issues, all the programs we started in this board and that must be continued: Fla Novas Gerações, for social responsibility initiatives, which I consider very important, and Patrícia agrees as well. The program with Zico, the incorporation of CFZ's assets into Flamengo. Ninho do Urubu is also included in this project. Fla Olímpico, for the club's Olympic activities, to receive resources, financing, and sponsorships for our Olympic athletes, especially for Patrícia, who comes from this area, was an athlete, and has been with the club since she was eight years old," explained the director.

Márcio Braga believes Patrícia Amorim will keep Marcos Braz as vice president of football. And speaking generally, not just about football, he believes she has what it takes to have a great tenure at Flamengo.

"She'll find the club with a checkbook, credit, a championship team, a viable institution, salaries paid on time... With a debt, yes, but manageable. And she'll have all of us by her side to help her complete all the operations," he concluded.
