After two hours in 40-degree heat in St. Peter's Square, President Marcio Braga handed Pope Benedict XVI the Flamengo shirt.

When the Supreme Pontiff approached the area reserved for the authorities, where the group accompanying the president was standing with the Flamengo flag unfurled, Marcio Braga explained to the Pope what Flamengo meant, its tradition, its importance on the international stage and the pride of having the largest fan base in the world.

Benedict XV showed surprise and enthusiasm upon receiving the personalized shirt, as can be seen in the photo.

Present were the Minister of the Brazilian Embassy in Rome, Jorge Ney Fernandes, lawyer Pedro Trengrouse and João Marcio Braga, the president's son.

Moved, the president received the Papal blessing on behalf of the Red-Black Nation.
