Note of protest and clarification
Flamengo provides clarification on the 1987 Brazilian championship

In defense of its traditions, and out of respect for the immense red-black nation, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo feels it is its duty to make public its repudiation of the unsustainable act, legally and morally, of the Brazilian Football Confederation, of not recognizing our title of Brazilian Champion of 1987, legitimately won on the pitch, and provides the following clarifications.
1) It is deeply strange that the CBF generously distributes national titles to several clubs, recognizing tournaments that have been played for decades, and does not do so only in relation to Flamengo.
2) With the decision now adopted, the CBF recognizes that it is possible to admit and declare two clubs to be Brazilian champions in the same year, even though they are competing in different and concurrent competitions, with Palmeiras being considered champion twice in the same period of one year.
3) The court ruling, which the President of the CBF clings to, due to a mistaken interpretation, merely declares that Sport Clube do Recife is the 1987 Brazilian champion, but at no point does it prohibit Flamengo from also being the same, in a duplication that has occurred so many times in the past and which is now being reestablished, with the surprising decision of the CBF.
4) From this it can be concluded, without the slightest effort, that the recognition of Flamengo, as Brazilian Champion of 1987, would in no way violate the res judicata, which does not reject such a decision, if adopted in the sporting sphere.
5) It is also incomprehensible that Mr. Ricardo Teixeira is so committed, after more than twenty years, to complying with a court decision, which he did not interpret correctly, if he has always vehemently rejected clubs from taking the judicial route to resolve their sporting disputes, even threatening them with severe disciplinary sanctions if they did so, and now he is still suggesting that Flamengo adopt this stance, as if we needed his advice.
6) The fair recognition of Flamengo as the legitimate champion of 1987 does not imply disrespect for the judicial decision, and Mr. Ricardo Teixeira's fear of being arrested is not justified, and if he were to be arrested it would certainly not be for this reason.
7) It is also worth noting that the CBF's "basket of kindness" allowed teams to be crowned Brazilian champions after playing only four matches in tournaments not as big as the one Flamengo competed in in 1987, which brought together the biggest and most powerful teams in Brazil, affiliated with the Clube dos Treze.
8) All Brazilians who, regardless of their club passions, are endowed with a minimum natural sense of justice, will recognize that the act we now repudiate has the sole and reprehensible purpose of punishing Flamengo and its President, for having adopted decisions, with independence and pride, but which contradict the personal interests and ambitious dreams and political projects of leaders who perpetuate themselves in power.
Having provided these clarifications, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo assures the red-and-black nation, made up of millions of people spread across Brazil, that it will fight in all judicial, sporting, and political arenas to defend its legitimate rights. As in the glorious tradition of its history, it does not fear challenges nor will it bow down or cower in the face of arrogance and arbitrary acts. With the support of the number 12 jersey worn by our fans, we will once again be victorious.
