Clube de Regatas do Flamengo confirms that it is initiating discussions with UNICEF - the United Nations Children's Fund - to build a long-term social project at a national and international level, at a time when the club is preparing to celebrate its 100 years of football and Brazil is preparing to host the two biggest sporting events in the world, the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.

The spirit of this partnership with UNICEF is being carefully designed and will focus on guaranteeing, valuing, and disseminating the rights of children and adolescents, notably on issues of historical UN struggles such as universal access for children to quality public education and child health, the fight against racism in sports, programs to combat child labor, and actions for a better life for children and adolescents, especially in the Brazilian semi-arid region.

It will therefore be, according to UNICEF itself, an unprecedented partnership in the world that represents an unprecedented sporting and social commitment and that, we believe, will serve as an example and inspiration for the country and the world.

This initiative is of interest to Flamengo, UNICEF, current and future generations of professional and Olympic athletes and will contribute sustainably to the development of future generations of athletes and Brazilian society.
