When Petkovic set up the ball to take a corner kick in the 24th minute of the Flamengo-Grêmio match, at least one fan in the stands had the nerve to get his camera ready amid the tension that gripped the crowd. Lawyer and university professor Mauricio Neves, author of a blog on the club's official website, was doubly lucky. He celebrated the most important goal in Flamengo's history in the last 17 years and later discovered he had managed to photograph the play, fractions of a second before the ball bulged the net.

"I focused on the goal and watched the shot. When the ball was reaching Angelim, I pressed the button. With the ball in the net, I couldn't see anything else, and only after the game did I realize the photo had been taken," explains Mauricio Neves.

Amid the frenzied cheers in the stands, the Fujifilm S5000 camera was nearly lost. "I fell to the ground, my dad fell with me, I lost the camera in the confusion and didn't even remember to look for it. When the game resumed, a friend of mine, Alex, in tears, handed me the camera," he says. For the club member, who lives in Lages, Santa Catarina, Angelim's goal was a 17-year-old outburst. "A cry of euphoria from 84 voices," he says.

Mauricio, one of the people behind the website www.flamantosagrado.com, came from Santa Catarina with five family members just to see the game. At 36, he's proud to have seen the final of the fifth championship, when Flamengo defeated Botafogo, and the 1983 semifinal in Curitiba, against Atlético-PR.
