Construction is in full swing at the Flamengo Museum
The company hired to perform the service confirmed the schedule and the space should be opened at the end of 2011.

A pioneering initiative among Brazilian clubs, Flamengo is witnessing the birth of the Flamengo Museum. Occupying 2.500 square meters, on two floors, at the club's headquarters in Gávea, the museum, which will be the largest among Latin American clubs, promises to be interactive and also showcase the club's main achievements. And the good news is that fans should be able to see it all up close later this year, according to the schedule announced at the launch.
After the construction site was set up for the procedures, the project entered the internal structure relocation phase so workers could begin surveying the space itself. The project has already undergone several modifications, but it's now entering the final construction phase, as the time for changes is becoming increasingly short. This is a cause for great celebration for Mauro Chaves, the museum's director.
"Now the construction site has caught fire. Next week we will remove the last areas. We are changing the locations that will be occupied by the museum. A soccer warehouse and Olympikus (sports equipment supplier) have already been decommissioned. As well as part of the secretariat and an employee cafeteria. We also freed up a general services area and locker rooms. This is a process that already allows the areas to be demolished to intensify the construction," explained the director, adding.
"I was in São Paulo with the people from Shopfitting (the company managing the museum project), and they confirmed that the November schedule is still on track. Some people don't believe in the project, but the museum is getting off the ground. Now, with the fences and scaffolding installed, and the annoying sound of the jackhammers gone, there's no doubt that the Flamengo Museum is a reality. Things are working out! On the other hand, there's nothing forcing us to open on the scheduled date, November 15th. A project is a project. Any date will be welcomed by Flamengo. We'll wait to see how the work progresses. But from what we've been told, it will indeed be in November," he added.
The board has already decided on the first temporary exhibition for the Flamengo museum. It will commemorate the centenary of Flamengo's football career, as the Football Department was created on December 24, 1911. The first match only took place on May 03, 1912.
The Flamengo museum will feature a massive collection. There will be 250 contextualized trophies and 2.500 trophies on a glass wall. Visitors will also be able to see through the wall the technical reserve, which houses over 5.000 trophies from achievements in a wide variety of sports.
