The CBF's decision to award the Taça das Bolinhas to São Paulo was severely condemned by Flamengo president Patricia Amorim. At a press conference held on Thursday morning, April 15, at the club's headquarters, the Flamengo director presented documents and stated that the "fight" to prove that the 1987 Brazilian title belongs to Flamengo has only just begun.
"Personally, this whole situation makes me feel immensely uncomfortable. I'm in a state of perplexity, and on behalf of Flamengo, I consider this attitude to be cowardly, an untimely and inopportune move by the CBF. For us, the fight has only just begun. It's up to all of us, whether the situation is different, present or past, to prepare ourselves to truly rescue Flamengo," the director continued.
"Flamengo is disappointed. It was not a dignified attitude. What happened yesterday was indecent. Know that we are hurt but we are not dead," he added.
According to Vice President of Legal Affairs, Rafael De Piro, Flamengo will submit all necessary documents to the CBF so that the decision can be reviewed.
"We will try to reverse the situation. The Club's entire legal department believes that the decision will be reconsidered and, if necessary, we will take the final consequences. We hope that by Friday or Monday at the latest, this entire situation will be resolved.
PATRICIA EXPLAINED THE CASE STEP BY STEP
"Since January, we've been working to bring about recognition of the 1987 title. We held several meetings to gather all the necessary documents and certificates to make it happen. At the same time, the Clube dos 13 election process was taking place, which brought me closer to president Fábio Koff. I met personally with CBF president Ricardo Teixeira and had been working silently with the club's Board of Directors. Finally, we obtained the minutes of the 1988 meeting, signed by all club presidents (attached), declaring Flamengo and Internacional the 1987 champions and runners-up, respectively.
In 1997, on the occasion of Sport's entry into the Club of 13, there is a second record (also attached), dated June 09, 1997, also signed by all presidents, declaring an amendment to the previous record, declaring two champions and two runners-up, in this case Flamengo, Sport, Internacional and Guarani.
Following President Ricardo Teixeira's instructions, the Club of 13's letters, which had reportedly been sent to the CBF, needed to be presented. We also obtained the letters. The first was dated June 12, 1997, addressed to Mr. Ricardo Teixeira, signed by Fábio Koff, and the second was dated November 19, 2007 (both attached).
I didn't comment yesterday because Flamengo always strives for victory on the field. Unfortunately, yesterday didn't happen, but this 1987 title was won on the field. The most important thing for us is victory, whether on the field, on the courts, in the pool, wherever. This passion is what we live by. This title is indisputable and was won with determination by all our athletes. Not holding the final was a decision made by the Club of 13, and Flamengo accepted it as a member of the organization. We hope the CBF will share the same sensitivity."
President Patrícia Amorim also stated that the CBF's decision was announced at an inopportune time and that everything suggests it was a form of retaliation against Flamengo, which supported Fábio Koff in the Club of 13's elections this week. Ricardo Teixeira supported Kleber Leite, the former president of Flamengo and who also supported Marcio Braga.
"I want to say that Flamengo considers it an untimely and inappropriate attitude on the part of the CBF to have made this statement yesterday (Wednesday). I don't want to believe it, but everything leads me to believe that it was retaliation on the part of the CBF," said Patrícia, who accepts sharing the 1987 title with Sport.
"Share the title with Sport, yes. But the Bolinhas Cup belongs to Flamengo. Because we are the first five-time champions. The (Bolinhas) Cup belongs to whoever won it first," concluded the director.
The Chairman of the Fiscal Council, Leonardo Ribeiro, will invite Teixeira to appear at Flamengo within 30 days to clarify all these facts. (Document attached). According to the club's Bylaws, articles 22 and 23, it is the member's responsibility to "contribute to the patrimonial and sporting greatness of Flamengo."
