Patrícia Amorim wins elections at Flamengo
Councilwoman and former swimmer will be the club's president for the 2010/12 period

With 792 of the 2.342 votes counted, Councilwoman Patrícia Amorim was elected this Monday, December 7th, as the new president of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. The candidate from the White List, who is expected to take office in early January for a three-year term (2010/2011/2012), received 93 more votes than the candidate from the Yellow List, businessman Delair Dumbrosck, current vice-president of the club, with 699 votes.
In third place was lawyer Clóvis Sahione, with 388 votes, from the Green List. The Pink List candidate, businessman Plinio Serpa Pinto, came in fourth with 311 votes. In fifth place was Pedro Ferrer, from the Orange List, with 89 votes. Lysias Itapicurú, from the Blue List, received 49 votes. There were 14 blank and null votes.
Voting began at 8 a.m. and continued until 21 p.m., in a calm atmosphere. The result was announced late in the evening, after three ballot boxes were counted. Patrícia Amorim's candidacy was consistently ahead in all the counted ballot boxes.
Patrícia Amorim Sihman, 40, is a city councilor for Rio de Janeiro and is serving her third term. Born in Rio de Janeiro on February 13, 1969, she emerged as a Brazilian swimmer. She was a 28-time Brazilian champion in the 200-, 400-, 800-, and 1.500-meter freestyle. Between 1983 and 1989, she broke 29 South American records and participated in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, after a 16-year absence of Brazilian swimmers. She retired from swimming in 1991. After retiring from swimming at the age of 25, Patricia held positions as a teacher, director, supervisor, and was Vice President of Olympic Sports at the Club during part of Marcio Braga's term.
