Elected in December, beating out five other candidates, President Patricia Amorim effectively took over the club's presidency on January 4th. And she hasn't stopped. There are successive meetings, team-building meetings, interviews, contract readings, and other daily activities.

In an interview with the official website, Patricia Amorim explains her plans for football and Olympic sports. She also previews some of the changes she intends to implement at the club. "We will employ modern management, with a focus on results and profitability, employing professionals focused on performance. I believe that this way we will make Flamengo a champion," she states.

My election was based on three pillars: leadership, credibility, and management. We will integrate all aspects of the club to meet the needs of members, fans, and employees, improving service delivery and protecting the club's assets. Credibility will be unshakable, and to achieve this, we will have transparent, responsible, and ethical management. We will employ modern management, with a vision of results and profitability, employing professionals focused on performance. I believe that this way, we will create a champion Flamengo.

We need to maintain the base formed in 2009 and hire reinforcements. Will our sponsorships be enough to maintain a competitive squad in 2010, since we will be competing in the Copa Libertadores, in addition to the traditional championships?
\ Patricia Amorim – The base has already been maintained and new reinforcements are being hired. We are negotiating with several companies and will soon have news on the issue of sponsorships.

\ Patricia Amorim – Luciano, first of all, thank you. I will prioritize the construction work to deliver the Training Center (TC) as quickly as possible. It may seem like another one of those campaign promises members are tired of hearing. I don't blame them for this. You yourself remember that this has been talked about for over 20 years. Unfortunately, it's true. We've made very little progress on this project. We have to race against time. And the Training Center is essential for Flamengo to be among the best-structured clubs in this country. I can make this statement because it will be a priority within what I call the revitalization of our assets. Furthermore, the Training Center is a central piece of the professional soccer structure I intend to implement. There, all youth divisions will be centralized and will have a high-level training structure, with training fields, a gym, a medical and physiotherapy center, housing, and a leisure area. We will take emergency measures so that we are able to generate the resources to finance the construction. Flamengo is not even taking advantage of the sports incentive laws that could perfectly finance these projects. Let's create the conditions so that we can seek this type of resource.

\ Alessandro Satiro da Silva, 24 years old, accountant, Muniz Freire (ES) –What are your plans for Flamengo's youth academy to once again develop the necessary stars for football? Based on the premise that each star revealed is a sign of future profits for the club.
\ Patricia Amorim – This is one of my priorities. This has always been the red-and-black tradition, and we must be proud of it again. In the 80s, Flamengo was the base of the Brazilian national team, and currently, we don't have a player in the U-17 squad that will compete in the World Cup in Nigeria, and we only have Fabrício in the U-20 squad. The current team still has some homegrown talent, including Adriano. Coach Andrade also grew up in Gávea. That's why it's so urgent to finish the construction at Ninho do Urubu so we can return to investing heavily in the youth teams and developing new stars. As I mentioned, this is our tradition, and that's what I'm going to do!

Flamengo's problems will not be solved by a single person; integrated action involving the participation and commitment of everyone will be necessary. I will also present to the board the creation of an economic and financial responsibility law, inspired by the Fiscal Responsibility Law, in which spending is limited and managers cannot spend more than their budget allows. My administration will represent the restoration of credibility. We will have transparency in our actions, hiring, and selection processes. And a focus on management. Furthermore, we will restore the club's credibility. And this means having ethics and transparency in our actions, two premises I intend to adopt in my management. We will honor our commitments. Whatever I negotiate regarding our debt will be fulfilled. I'm not a magician; of course, we won't be able to pay off this entire debt overnight, nor will we be able to do so during the three years of my term. If I promised this, I would be lying, being demagogic.

This debt has been accumulating for years. First of all, you need to know its real size, its profile, who the creditors are, the immediate demands, and those that can be renegotiated.

My first step will be to hire an independent external auditor to conduct this entire survey, determine our actual liabilities, and determine what has already been committed to anticipated revenue. I've already begun this work alongside professionals and businesspeople specializing in finance and management who support me. We don't have time to waste. It will take a while to get a complete picture. I've always said: first of all, we need to get our house in order. And we will get our house in order. At the same time, we will keep Flamengo active, setting and meeting targets in all areas and striving for high-level sporting performance. It's the same old story: we'll have to change the tire while the car is running, because the sports calendar starts in January, shortly after taking office, and Flamengo can't afford to stop. We need to prepare for London 2012 and continue through to the 2016 Games in Rio. It's impossible for the club not to be the catalyst for this process with an Olympics here in the city. Flamengo is the best Olympic village possible. We must have the ability to keep the athletes at home. Now the sports can have their own sponsors and thus be self-sustaining, which wasn't the case during the Petrobras contract. We will develop sponsorship projects that comply with the Incentive Laws for fundraising. We will have executive and professional management, with technical training and infrastructure for high-performance teams.
