Brazilians' relationship with soccer is well known. This time, a survey conducted by Ibope between February and July 2008 delved deeper to paint a curious profile of Rio fans, with some surprises and other expected data. 3.681 people from social classes AB, C, and DE, aged 12 to 64, and residing in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, were interviewed. Flávio Cordeiro, one of the partners in the company that commissioned the study from Ibope, explained that the results of the analysis help understand the loyalty of fans. The information is from the newspaper O Globo.

"There's no loyalty between consumers and brands; it's a volatile relationship. The exception is soccer. Loyalty is in the fans' DNA. If we understand Brazilians' relationship with soccer, we also understand their relationship with brands," said Flávio.

One piece of information already predicted by the survey is that the vast majority, 58% of those interviewed, support Flamengo. Right behind them, with a significant difference, are Vasco fans with 17%. The old story that football is a man's thing is a thing of the past\ What stood out most in the analysis was another issue. Among the Tricolor fans, women represent 52% of the total. Not far behind, the Rubro-Negro's female fan base also outnumbers the male fans, totaling 51%. Furthermore, the survey found that 17% of respondents said they don't support either team.\ Vasco residents are the biggest consumers of fast foodOf the Vasco fans, 60% eat fast food. Interestingly, the team's sponsor is a representative of this segment. Paradoxically, Vasco fans are second in body care, behind Botafogo fans: 50% of the Black and White fans exercise. In terms of cup lifting and purchasing power, the Tricolores are the champions\ A busy lifestyle is the excuse Fluminense fans use for not taking proper care of their health and being the biggest consumers of alcoholic beverages. According to the survey, Fluminense fans have higher purchasing power than their Rio de Janeiro rivals, who spend approximately R$53 per month on cell phone services. In this case, the predominance of customers who use caller ID, voicemail, and text messaging features, with more expensive packages, also belongs to Fluminense fans.\ Safety during sex: Alvinegro fans are the most cautious\ The most responsible when it comes to safety during sex are Vasco and Botafogo fans, although it's still not enough: 36% of those who support the Alvinegros buy condoms before sex. Fans of both teams also have health insurance above the average (33%).\
