Flamengo fans will once again see one of their greatest idols back on the field wearing the sacred jersey. But this time, Serbian Petkovic will showcase his talent on artificial turf and on smaller stages than those he's used to playing on. The foreigner has been signed by Flamengo to compete in the 7-a-side Club World Cup, which will be held on July 11, 12, 13 and 14 in Rio de Janeiro.
"I can only thank Petkovic for receiving and accepting my project so well. It's always very important to have professional football stars in our sport, as this attracts audiences to our arenas. I take this opportunity to invite the Nation to watch our training session tonight (Thursday). The gates will be open to the public and you are our guests," said José Moraes, coach and president of the team. The practice takes place at the Jardim Guanabara Yacht Club, on Ilha do Governador, Rio de Janeiro.
José Moraes also invited Petkovic to play for the Brazilian National Team in the next World Cup, but a response has not yet been given. What is certain is that the Serbian will be at training this Thursday evening (June 13.06th) at 21 pm.
Last Friday (June 7.06th), José Moraes and the entire Flamengo squad were at the Gávea social headquarters. They were received in the presidential room by the Flamengo president, Eduardo Bandeira de Mello. The meeting took place to honor the team, which, on the first weekend of June, won the Copa do Brasil for the third time.
