Flamengo's Formula Superliga driver is expected to be announced early next week. In an interview with GLOBOESPORTE.COM, Ricardo Hinrichsen, the club's vice president of marketing, revealed that he will be Brazilian and currently races in Europe. The contract hasn't been signed yet, but the club has already finalized everything with him, and he is trying to come to Brazil to be introduced to the fans.
"The driver is already confirmed, and we should announce him early next week. He's Brazilian and currently races in Europe, I think in more than one category. The contract hasn't been signed yet, so I can't reveal his name, but there are just a few details left to work out. We're trying to bring him to Brazil to sign the contract and introduce him to the fans at an event at the club's headquarters," says Hinrichsen.
This Wednesday, Flamengo's car made its first run in the Formula Superleague collective tests at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy. Italian Giacomo Ricci drove the car and posted the fifth-fastest time at the end of the first day of activities.
Flamengo will receive a percentage of the category's broadcast revenue (European TV, broadcast TV, and online), advertising space on the driver's overalls and car, and licensed merchandise bearing the club's brand associated with the event. At the time of the announcement, the amount was praised by the club's executives.
In addition to Flamengo, 15 other clubs have confirmed their participation in the Super League Formula, which will have its inaugural race on August 31st at the English circuit of Donington Park. The others are: Corinthians, Milan, Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, PSV Eindhoven, Olympiacos-GRE, Porto, Borussia Dortmund, Anderlecht-BEL, Basel-SUI, Sevilla, Rangers-ESC, Galatasaray-TUR, Beijing Guoan-CHN, and Al Ain-UAE.
