Flamengo, the team with the largest fan base in the country, has enormous consumer potential among sports fans. Ricardo Hinrichsen, vice president of marketing for the Rio de Janeiro club, is aware of this and wants to make the team profitable.

One of Hinrichsen's biggest concerns is the piracy of products linked to Brazilian clubs, which takes away much of the club's sales potential and also reduces the financial revenue linked to the brand.

To this end, the vice president of marketing for the Rio de Janeiro club believes that, to defeat the threat of counterfeit products, official club-related merchandise needs to be more accessible to the public. "Our intention is to make products more competitive in terms of price and to be present in as many points of sale as possible. And to make consumers think twice before buying a counterfeit product."

Regarding the club's work, the director promises progress in the area of licensing Flamengo-branded products, such as the São Paulo/Warner Bros. partnership. In addition, the redesign of the Flamengo website will benefit fans.

"We're also looking for new forms of sponsorship, new sponsors. A company is helping us better format the club's sponsorship properties.

For now, the big news at Flamengo is motorsports. According to Ricardo, this is an opportunity for Flamengo to connect with some of the world's top drivers and grow the brand abroad. "Last year, the Super League Formula marketing department was looking for major European clubs and also clubs in Latin America. That's how they found Flamengo," said Ricardo Hinrichsen.
