First in Brazil, Flamengo officially launches Flamengo eSports

The club once again demonstrates its vocation for innovation and avant-garde in special projects

Flamengo unveiled Flamengo eSports this Friday, where the club will have a dedicated esports team. The club's inclusion in this world meets a growing demand worldwide and marks another milestone in innovation for Flamengo's marketing. Flamengo is the first Brazilian football club to have an esports team, reinforcing its position among younger audiences.

According to studies, esports will generate over US$700 million in revenue in 2017 alone, encompassing sponsorships, rights, viewership, and prize money. In Europe, several teams already have their own teams and compete in annual championships with record-breaking viewership.

Those who are proud to be members make the team stronger and always have more Flamengo: discounts on tickets and pay-per-view, exclusive videos to stay up-to-date, advantages in official stores to get the jersey and other products, and much more. Click and join now!

The project, at Flamengo, is led by the vice president of marketing, Daniel Orlean, who presented it to the press today, at an event attended by partners from Twitch, Flamengo's official sponsor in the area, and Cursor, a company specialized in projects and brand positioning in this environment.

"It's the meeting of two worlds, which are becoming increasingly closer and more integrated. Flamengo has been monitoring this market for two years. Every time we observe the market, we realize how interested our audience is in this world of games, like LoL and Pro Evolution Soccer. If eSports was once an alternative, now it's a real sport, as it involves demand, commitment, concentration, training, and high performance," said Orlean, who explained the reasons for starting with the game League of Legends (LoL), a true global craze.

"We chose LoL to start not only because we saw the numbers, but we also analyzed scenarios and many other games. We looked at the experiences of clubs in Europe, both good and bad, we saw how much activity there was, and we decided it had to happen at Flamengo. It's a trend, and we're on its path. We want to bring those who don't yet love Flamengo to our side. Within LoL, those who don't have a team can embrace Flamengo as their heart. And it will also unite generations. When I announced on Twitter that we had closed the partnership, a 16-year-old boy told me that "now he can talk to his father, who loves Flamengo, and I love LoL," he added.

Compared to the international scene, South America still lags behind in financial activity. To date, the esports market has generated US$4,4 billion, well below Europe, which only reached over US$20 million. However, the growth rate is much higher, at 13,9%, compared to 4% in the Old Continent. This interest, and the internationalization of the brand, is one of Flamengo's goals, according to Orlean.

"We've been studying this scenario for a year. We want to remain the best in the world. The other day, I saw a player on television at an international event, and he was wearing a Flamengo jersey. Our brand is already spreading across the planet, to other areas where we weren't even known."

Selective

Flamengo will have two LoL teams, which will be selected through national tryouts. In January 2018, the Mais Querido will compete in the Challenger Circuit, the qualifying division for the Brazilian LoL Championship. The tryout for players will open on October 10th at 19 p.m. at e-scout.me/seletivafla and will have two modules:

Module A - For Platinum 5 to Challenger level athletes, over 17 years old.
Module B - Flamengo Academy, a youth category for players over 14 years old who are between levels 30 and Gold 1.

Five players will emerge from each module, leaving a total of 10 players selected to make up the two Flamengo eSports teams.

Streamers

In addition to the athletes, Flamengo eSports will feature a team of renowned streamers who collectively have over 700 followers on social media. Shevii, Manajj, and Cabritoz will be responsible for ensuring quick familiarization with the players and also generating content.

Social Media

Flamengo eSports is already on the three main social networks, Twitter (@flaesports), Facebook (@flaesportsoficial) and Instagram (@flaesports).
