"Watch out, FIFA"

Statement from Vice President of Football, Kleber Leite

By - in

After the regrettable incidents that occurred in yesterday's match, I took the initiative to speak by telephone today with Mr. Sérgio Corrêa, president of the CBF Refereeing Committee, to express my displeasure with the outrageous performance of referee Carlos Eugênio Simon, as well as to highlight the enormous damage that the errors committed by him could cause to Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.

In the conversation, I heard from Mr. Sérgio Correa what all red-black fans and football observers in general must still be asking themselves.

The president of the CBF Refereeing Commission confessed to me that he could not understand why the referee did not award the penalty at the end of the match and assured me that he will speak to Mr. Simon today to question him about what happened at Mineirão.

I also received the guarantee that the referee, like others who have made mistakes during the Brazilian Championship, will be punished by the CBF.

The punishment, however, will in no way serve to repair the damage caused to Flamengo by the poor performance of Mr. Carlos Eugênio Simon.

Flamengo's protest will be formalized tomorrow, when we will forward to FIFA, to the attention of Secretary General Jerome Valcke, the video "BE CAREFUL, FIFA" with the scenes that demonstrate, I repeat, the outrageous performance of the referee chosen to represent Brazil once again in a World Cup.

The material will also be sent to the president of the Conmebol Referees Commission, Carlos Alarcón, and to the president of the CBF Refereeing Commission, Sérgio Corrêa.
