A group of Flamengo fans is launching another campaign to support the team against Atlético-PR. Since the Maracanã stadium gates will be open, the goal now is to get every Flamengo fan to put a Flamengo shirt or flag in their window on game day (November 25th).
The campaign, dubbed "Rubro-Negro Pride Day," isn't limited to Rio de Janeiro. Its organizers encourage Flamengo fans across Brazil and the world to join in. Fans are also asked to leave home wearing a Flamengo jersey.
Another way to increase the impact is that, when placing the shirt or flag in the window, the fan shouts "a happy Flamengo fan lives here" very loudly to disturb the neighbors.
"Our intention is to dress Rio, Brazil, and the world in red and black. We'll show how big Flamengo's fans are. The campaign is just beginning, and we'll publicize it even more. You'll see what the city will look like," said Marcello Tijolo, one of the campaign organizers, alongside Evandro Bocão.
The idea came about after winning the 2006 Copa do Brasil and took shape at a time when Flamengo was growing in the Brazilian league.
The campaign is somewhat reminiscent of the twice-yearly demonstrations in Catalonia, an autonomous community in Spain. On April 23 (St. George's Day) and September 11 (Catalonia Day), residents place their flags in their windows.
