One of the greatest Brazilian biographers, writer Ruy Castro is the author of one of the newest contributions to the Rei do Rio website - http://www.flamengo.com.br/reidorio/.
Launched on June 5th, the hotsite pays tribute to Flamengo's 31 Rio titles, an achievement that gave the club hegemony in Rio de Janeiro.
The initiative features chronicles, historical summaries, images, and a series of interesting facts. Thirty-one Flamengo fans, including both publicly known and anonymous individuals, were invited to describe their passion for Flamengo. So far, 25 texts have been published. Castro's text is number 21 in the Chronicles section.
In addition to Ruy Castro, author of works such as "Chega de Saudade", "O anjo pornográfico", "Estrela solitaire" and "O vermelho e o negro – pequena grande história do Flamengo", the section presents unpublished texts by names such as the club's former goalkeeper Raul Plassmann, the Brazilian ambassador to Ireland Pedro Fernando Brêtas Bastos, Senator Arthur Virgilio, journalist and historian Roberto Assaf, award-winning writer Milton Hatoum, journalist Ricardo Villela (TV Globo) and Arthur Muhlenberg (author of Urublog on GloboEsporte.com), among many others.
The special website features texts about Flamengo's trajectory in the 31 competitions in which it lifted the trophy, with a timeline from 1914 to 2009, as well as individual highlights and curiosities that marked the competitions.
The Testimonials section is the site's interactive area. Its purpose is to feature stories from people who experienced the titles up close—names like Nunes, the top scorer in the finals, and Sávio, the undefeated champion in 1996—as well as from fans interested in sharing their memories and emotions. The terms and conditions for participation are available on the hotsite.
The website also features a gallery with photos of all the champion teams and others from the most recent championship. The idea is that this area can be updated frequently with new images, also collaboratively. Another attraction is a page featuring official and licensed Rei do Rio products—both existing and future releases, alluding to the 31st title.
The initiative is the result of a partnership between FlaMarketing and several collaborators.
