With support from the Ministry of Health, the National Red-Black Blood Donation Campaign begins on August 15th in São Paulo. The goal is to encourage fans to donate blood to blood banks throughout the country. This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Marketing Department and the Nation's Embassies, a project of the Planning Department that organizes official club representations in various parts of the country and the world.
The new campaign gained momentum through the union of two similar initiatives that already existed – one from the club, the other from the Embassies. At different times, the club's Marketing Department encouraged donations at the blood center in Rio de Janeiro, while the Embassies did the same in some Brazilian states.
The donation period this time will run from August 15th to 21st. “We want to encourage Flamengo fans to donate blood during the same period. The chosen periods are February and August, the most critical months for blood banks throughout Brazil,” explains Ricardo Hinrichsen, Flamengo's Executive Marketing Director.
According to the Minister of Health, José Gomes Temporão, the campaign is aligned with the Ministry's objectives. “It is with great satisfaction that we at the Ministry of Health see Flamengo and its large fan base channeling all their energy to encourage such an important cause, or rather, a gesture of love, which is the act of donating blood. Flamengo's initiative is perfectly aligned with the strategy of the Ministry of Health's National Blood Donation Campaign, which aims to encourage people who already donate blood to invite their friends to do the same. It's a true bloodstream, of which, to our delight, Flamengo is now a part.”
The FlaSampa Embassy will be responsible for launching the campaign, encouraging donations in the city of São Paulo to be concentrated on the first day of the campaign, Saturday the 15th. The closing event will be on August 21st in Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of Flamengo's organized fan groups. The campaign has the support of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.
In other states, the day will be chosen through the Blood Centers and, in some cases, with the support of the local National Embassies. "Embassies interested in participating in the project should contact the club to strengthen the project," explains Rodrigo Fortuna, coordinator of FlaSampa.
Blood centers in several states have already confirmed their participation. Addresses for blood donation can be found on the website: http://mkt.flamengo.com.br/hotsite/sanguerubronegro/.
The website gathers important information such as who can donate and how to donate, as well as an interactive area: donors can send photos, videos, and participate through communities on Orkut and Twitter for the campaign.
