One of Flamengo's biggest revelations of the last three decades was born exactly 40 years ago. Sávio Bortolini Pimentel is one of the greatest idols of the post-Zico era, alongside Junior and Romário, with whom he shared the field in the 1990s. The Espírito Santo native played for the Manto Sagrado from 1992 to 1997 and, after eight years in European football, returned to the club for a brief stint in 2006. In his first year with the professional team, 1994, he played left winger, one of the last players to play that position in Brazilian football, but throughout his career, he began to have greater freedom of play on the field.

Honoring his position, he scored 95 goals for Rubro-Negro in 261 matches, participating in the conquests of the Campeonato Carioca (1996), Copa Ouro (1996), Taça Guanabara (1995 and 1996), Taça Rio (1996), Taça Cidade do Rio de Janeiro (1993) and the Malaysia International Tournament (1994).

His most important title with the club, the 1996 State Championship, was won undefeated. Individually, the striker was the top scorer in the 1995 Copa do Brasil, with seven goals. Furthermore, the Blond Angel enjoyed leaving his mark in finals. Sávio scored all three goals in the 1996 Copa Ouro title, a 3-1 victory over São Paulo in Manaus, as well as finding the net in the finals of the 1996 Guanabara Cup, a 2-0 victory over Vasco, and in the 1994 Malaysia International Tournament, a 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich. 

If he were playing today, the striker would ask for music seven times. He scored three goals in matches against Sport in the 1994 Brazilian Championship, against Kaburé-TO in the 1995 Brazilian Cup, against América in the 1996 Rio Cup, against São Paulo in the Gold Cup of the same year, against Valencia in the 1997 Troféu Naranja, against América-RN in the 1997 Brazilian Championship, and against Vélez Sarsfield in the 1997 Super Cup. In every match, Flamengo left the field with the victory.

While playing for Flamengo, he played for the Brazilian national team in the 1995 Copa América and the 1996 Olympic Games. In total, he played 18 games and scored four goals for the "Amarelinha" (Little Yellow) between 4 and 1994. Sávio played for Brazil in two more matches, in 1996 and 1999, while playing for Real Madrid. With the Spanish team, he had the chance to revive one of Brazilian football's greatest rivalries, winning the 2000 Club World Cup final against Vasco.
