The Labor Day promotion ended last Saturday and the Official Flamengo Website is proud to announce the 10 winners this Monday (May 03.05rd). Contestants had to write, in 500 characters, the best excuse they could come up with to watch Flamengo, and many outlandish stories reached the contest team, who will award the winners with 10 HEXAGERADO Braziline jerseys.
Problems with the mother-in-law, with the wife, stomach ache, fake car accident, flu, and even swine flu. All these mishaps were invented by the participants to attend a Flamengo game when they should have been working. Furthermore, others recounted even simulating conjunctivitis, nosebleeds, etc.
It was a difficult choice, but 10 participants were selected. Check out the names and stories of those chosen below.
Alcimar Teixeira De Abreu Filho
Double lie. He made up an excuse at work, blaming the mandatory college internship, and did the same during his internship. The game was Flamengo vs. Universidad de Chile, for this year's Libertadores Cup.
Ulisses Jovencio De Meneses
He put vinegar in his eyes and faked conjunctivitis so he could go to a Flamengo vs. Corinthians match in the 2009 Brazilian Championship.
Jackson Medeiros
An employee of an internet café sabotaged the electricity supply to get out and watch the match between Flamengo and Defensor, for the 2007 Libertadores Cup.
Yury Monteiro Lopes
He went to the health center to try and get a medical certificate to get time off work. He faked it so well for the doctor that he had to receive an IV drip to achieve his goal. The game was Flamengo vs. Portuguesa, for the 2008 Brazilian Championship.
Valdosir Cavalcante Lins
He invented the classic story of his mother-in-law's death. Except that a mother-in-law had actually died, his neighbor's. However, he didn't go to the wake, but to the 1983 Brazilian Championship final between Flamengo and Santos. When his mother-in-law actually died, he couldn't go to the wake either, since he had already 'gone'.
Claudevan Oliveira Lima
He had his wife call his boss, faking a car accident. That way, he got permission to attend the 2008 State Championship final between Flamengo and Botafogo.
Julio José dos Santos Terroso
He pretended to have a religious commitment to his evangelical boss in order to get permission to attend the final between Flamengo and Cruzeiro, for the 2003 Copa do Brasil.
Daniel Vilar De Oliveira
He invented an excuse to leave the Navy barracks in 1981 to watch Flamengo and Cobreloa play. He was discovered and narrowly avoided being expelled from the service. Today he is a champion and retired.
John Carlos Accacio Gomes
He faked a nosebleed to get time off work. The game was Flamengo vs. Coritiba, in the 2009 Brazilian Championship.
Pedro TQF
He faked a stomach ache, including a performance with several grimaces. He ended up being caught by his boss, but went to the Maracanã stadium anyway. The game was Flamengo vs. Grêmio, for the 2008 Brazilian Championship.
