In 30 days in November, Flamengo's new official website received nearly one million visits and 3.279.380 page views, according to Google Analytics. These figures only consider visits to www.flamengo.com.br, excluding existing hotsites and Flapedia, which do not count hits.
Completely redesigned, the new website launched on October 27th and has been seeing daily increases in average traffic. On launch day, the site received 13.973 visitors. On December 2nd, the number reached exactly 45.993.
On Mondays, the day when visits are usually highest, the average has been rising. In early November, on the 2nd, shortly after Flamengo's victory over Santos, there were 18.477 visits. A week later, on November 9th, the number rose to 37.990 – the day before, the club had beaten Atlético-MG 3-1 at Mineirão Stadium. The following Monday, the climb continued: 46.956 visits, a day after the victory over Náutico at Aflitos Stadium. The disappointment with the draw against Goiás caused a drop the following week, on November 23rd, when the site had 39.423 visits. Euphoria over the victory over Corinthians pushed the number to the peak of the month, on November 30th, with 84.355 visits.
During this period, the official website received visits from 3.151 cities around the world. In Brazil, the majority were from Rio de Janeiro (261.643), followed by Brasília (61.434), São Paulo (57.154), Belo Horizonte (44.952), Salvador (37.909), Fortaleza (26.830), Goiânia (24.455), Vitória (23.618), Recife (18.260) and Curitiba (16.552).
The official website received visits from cities in virtually every Brazilian state. At extremes, Pelotas (RS) received 485 visits, and Macapá (AC) received 1.564 visits in the South. Rio Branco (AC) received 503 visits, and Natal (RN) received 12.406.
In addition to Brazil, the page received visits from 139 other countries. The majority came from the United States, with 7.530. Next came Brazilians living in Europe, such as Portugal (2.016), Italy (1.622), France (1.241), and the United Kingdom (1.189).
In addition to a more contemporary design, the new official website has improved its content, which is now more dynamic, especially in the Fla Agency, updated by a team that includes the club's press office and journalists from the official website. Fans can now interact with athletes and idols in the "You Interview" section, which has already allowed site visitors to submit questions to names like Nunes, Zé Roberto, and Álvaro.
According to Ricardo Hinrichsen, executive marketing director, the goal of the club's official website is to create empathy with fans. "We want them to see the website as a good source of information and to be able to interact and participate," he stated.
The Nation section ( www.flamengo.com.br/site/nacao), launched on November 15th as a gift to fans, is the one generating the most news, with a blog section on topics of interest to fans. Mauricio Neves, for example, writes texts that seek to engage fans emotionally. Adriano Melo recounts the stories of great players. Journalist Paulo Lima discusses fans living in other countries. The newest blog, by Marcelo Andrade, a former basketball player for the club, is dedicated to fans of the sport. "Anyone who is registered can comment on news and blogs. The section has collaborative areas, where fans can contribute reports, their own stories, and photos," says Juan Saavedra, content manager for the official website.
