One of the newest clubs in the first division of the Rio de Janeiro state championship, Boavista has never beaten Flamengo. The record between the teams shows a history of three matches, with two wins for Flamengo and one draw against the club from the Saquarema region.

The first time they faced each other, in 2007, Flamengo, coached by Ney Franco, did enough to win the three points. Striker Souza broke the deadlock. The match was for the Taça Guanabara and the team that took the field consisted of Bruno, Leonardo Moura, Irineu (later Thiago Gosling), Ronaldo Angelim, Juan, Paulinho, Claiton, Renato, Juninho Paulista (later Roni), Renato Augusto and Souza (later Leonardo).

The following year, on January 20th, in the 2008 Taça Guanabara, another victory. Again, Souza scored, and captain Fabio Luciano completed the scoring. The 2-0 win was achieved through the following players: Diego, Leonardo Moura, Fabio Luciano, Ronaldo Angelim, Juan, Jailton, Cristian (later Obina), Ibson, Toró, Renato Augusto (Marcinho), and Souza. The team was managed by Joel Santana.

In 2009, already relaxed after a good campaign in the Taça Guanabara, Flamengo was surprised by Boavista. After opening the scoring with Josiel in the 24th minute of the first half, the team suffered a comeback. The equalizer came from a long-range shot, deflected by Toró. Bruno parried the shot, and Roberto Santos didn't miss. In the second half, Boavista took the lead with a goal from Santiago.

But Fabio Luciano prevented defeat, heading in a free kick from the left side. The team drew 2-2 with the following lineup: Bruno, Douglas (Airton), Fabio Luciano, Ronaldo Angelim, Everton Silva, Toro, Kleberson, Jonatas (Egidio), Everton (Paulo Sergio), Zé Roberto and Josiel.
