Flamengo's under-20 team already has a date to begin its quest for a second consecutive São Paulo Junior Football Cup title: January 3, 2017. After win the third Copinha trophy in its history at the beginning of 2016, in a thrilling final decided on penalties against Corinthians, the junior team begins the fight for the fourth cup in Group 23, alongside São Caetano-SP, Central-PE and São Bento-SP, at the headquarters in São Caetano do Sul.
One of the most traditional Brazilian youth soccer championships will have a record number of participating clubs in its 48th edition: 120 from 26 states, playing in 30 venues. The closing ceremony, traditionally, will take place on January 25th, São Paulo's anniversary, at Pacaembu Stadium.
New on the field
Under the new regulations, each team will be able to make up to six substitutions per match, in a maximum of three acts, so as not to increase the total time spent on dead balls.
According to the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF), the measure was adopted in agreement with youth academy professionals and the Brazilian Football Development Movement (MFFB), which brings together some of the country's top clubs. This provides more athletes with the opportunity to be evaluated on the pitch and ensures better physical health for players who play many matches in a short period of time.

The foreign team invited to this edition of the Copinha is Pérolas Negras, from Haiti, a country devastated by Hurricane Matthew this year.
