With one player less since the 37th minute of the match, Flamengo was defeated 2-0 by Criciúma, away from home, in a match for the fourth round of the Brazilian U-20 Championship. The Rubro-Negro conceded both goals in the first half of the duel played at Criciúma's training center.

The game

The ball had barely started rolling when, just two minutes in, Criciúma opened the scoring. Flamengo tried to react and had two opportunities in quick succession, the second of which, in the 19th minute, saw Guilherme receive a pass from Alan and shoot. The ball hit the goalkeeper, and the defender cleared it off the line.

Criciúma attacked again in the 23rd minute, with a cross from the left that goalkeeper Gabriel Werneck parried out of the area. The red-and-black team responded on the right with Ryan Roberto, who dribbled past an opponent and shot powerfully, but over the goal. The Santa Catarina team scored their second goal in the 34th minute, on a rebound after a corner kick.

Midfielder Pablo was sent off by the referee in the 37th minute. Even with one less player, Flamengo still had a good counter-attack after a ball was put back into play by Gabriel Werneck, who passed to Alan Santos, who almost continued the play. In the last play of the first half, in the 48th minute, Ryan Roberto made a play down the left wing, crossed the ball, and the defense cleared it.

In the first three minutes of the second half, Flamengo had three chances. Ryan Roberto shot first, Guilherme tried again on the rebound, and the goalkeeper parried it for a corner. From the corner, Da Mata headed dangerously over the bar. At 13 minutes, Guilherme dribbled past the defender and passed to Camargo, whose shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper. On the rebound, Guilherme scored, but he was offside.

At 27 minutes, Criciúma attacked dangerously after a misplaced pass in a build-up play by Gabriel Werneck, who recovered and made a good save. At 34 minutes, Flamengo almost scored the first goal with a shot from Mexican Diego Reyes, well saved by the opposing goalkeeper. There were no more dangerous plays until the final whistle.

It's worth noting that coach Bruno Pivetti suffered a last-minute setback. Forward Josmar presented with gastroenteritis and was ruled out hours before the match. In addition to him, there were four other absences: goalkeeper Leo Nannetti, called up to participate in training with Carlo Ancelotti's Brazilian national team; right-back Daniel Sales, called up for the first team; defender João Victor, who is serving with the Brazilian under-20 national team; and forward Douglas Telles, with a left thigh injury.
