Saturday (25) was a day of plenty of sun and football for the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. In a very competitive match, Flamengo drew 0-0 with the then second-placed Cruzeiro, at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea, for the eighth round of the competition. The result kept Rubro-Negro in the qualifying zone.

Flamengo's first good chance came in the 11th minute when Guilherme made a good play and Johnny crossed for Falcone to shoot. The ball was blocked by the defense and went out of bounds. In the 30th minute, Daniel Sales exchanged passes with Pablo on the right and launched the ball into the area; Sayago took advantage of the loose ball, shot with placement, and the Cruzeiro defender cleared it off the line.

Cruzeiro responded in the 30th minute with a shot from outside the box, which Léo Nannetti parried away. Play remained concentrated in midfield until the end of the first half.

Cruzeiro returned for the second half with more attacking presence. Flamengo took advantage to counter-attack and, in a quick move in the 8th minute, Josmar almost found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but ended up being fouled at the edge of the penalty area.

At 11 minutes, Guilherme made a good play on the left and shot hard into the middle of the area, low, Josmar just missed the ball. Duels for the ball continued to be the main theme of the match, without many decisive offensive plays. And it was Flamengo who created another chance at 32 minutes: Josmar exchanged passes with Guilherme and shot towards the corner, forcing a good save from the goalkeeper. In the following play, Guilherme shot dangerously from outside the area.

In their quest for victory, Flamengo had another good chance in the 38th minute, with Pablo shooting over the crossbar. Despite their persistence and effort on the field, the Flamengo youth team couldn't secure the win.

Flamengo's next opponent will be Bahia. The match — valid for the ninth round of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship — is scheduled for Thursday (30), at 15 pm, at CT Evaristo de Macedo, in Camaçari-BA.
