Flamengo's star-making machine continues at full steam. Year after year, Brazil's most beloved club continues to reveal great talents for Brazilian football. And the nation can be on tenterhooks, because by all indications, another idol is emerging from the club's youth ranks: Caio Rangel.
A smart, fast, and skilled number 10, the 15-year-old has been excelling in his age group for some time now. So much so that he's frequently called up to play for the Brazilian U-15 national team.
This Wednesday (31.08), at the Zico Football Center (CFZ), Caio stood out again wearing the red and black jersey. He scored the winning goal for Flamengo against Fluminense, guaranteeing the Mais Querido the title of champion of the 2011 Brazil-Japan Friendship Cup. And what a goal. The young star showed skill in dribbling his markers and coolness to finish to the back of the net.
Such skill earned the midfielder the award at the end of the match as the tournament's best player. Even before he was announced, the fans present at the CFZ, mostly family and friends of the players, were already chanting his name.
Happy with his success, Caio Rangel thanked God for the good results he has achieved in his still short career.
"First of all, I can only thank God. The struggle is huge. We fought hard for this and thanks to Him our effort was rewarded," said Caio.
While he's still unknown to much of the red-and-black nation, the number 10, a Ronaldinho fan, revealed his main characteristic on the field. And, apparently, the fans must be pleased.
"My main characteristic is my dribbling. I like to dribble and go after opponents," commented the player, who from a young age understood the great responsibility of defending the most popular club in the country.
"We already know what it's like playing for Flamengo. The pressure is huge, and that starts at the base. We always have to show a lot of grit on the field, run a lot," he concluded.
