Youth category reopens Gávea lawn
Stadium renovated by the Dutch Football Association hosts its first official match with the youth team

Last Tuesday (22.07), Flamengo's under-16 soccer team reopened the José Bastos Padilha stadium, in Gávea. The youth team had the privilege of debuting on the pitch, which is a carpet after renovations carried out by the Dutch Football Federation, in exchange for staying at the Rubro-Negro's headquarters during the World Cup.
Before FIFA officially released Flamengo's pitch, the youth teams played their matches at the Nivaldo Pereira stadium in Nova Iguaçu. The club's youth soccer coordinator, Carlos Noval, shared the reaction of the youngsters upon returning to the clubhouse.
"Gávea is where they truly feel at home. Their joy at returning here after a whole semester playing away, with the field in such perfect condition, was incredible. Not only for our players, but even for their opponents. The grass is like a carpet, and that's what caught the most attention. Everyone was talking about how they'd never played on such good grass. The level of performance is different, and the bond between the players and the club is growing," he said.
In the return match against Gávea, the first match of the Guilherme Embry Tournament after the World Cup break, the Rubro-Negro returned home with a victory. The youth team defeated Botafogo 1-0 in the sixth round of the competition's first half. The boys are in second place in the standings, three points behind the leader.
