Currently, Flamengo's under-20 soccer team competes only in the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG), a traditional competition in Rio de Janeiro. For the past two years, the trophy has gone to "Mais Querido," and in 2012, the team's manager was Cleber dos Santos, who is managing the Red-Blacks this year. The coach promises to dedicate all of his squad's energy and dedication to winning the OPG championship for the third time.
"The group is fully focused on winning this third championship. Each game is crucial in this journey we're taking step by step. The players are very focused, and I see the squad becoming more united and focused only on the next victories," said the red-and-black coach.
Retaking leadership
Last Saturday (12.10), in Gávea, Flamengo beat Serra Macaense 3-1, with two goals from Renan Donizete and one from Eduardo, and regained the lead in group B of the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament. The Mais Querido has eleven points and surpasses its opponent from Macaé, which has the same score, in goal difference.
To mathematically guarantee its place in the next phase of the competition, Flamengo needs to win just one of the two games it still has to play in group B. The first of these will be held next Wednesday (16.10), at 13 pm, at Marrentão Stadium; the opponent will be Duque de Caxias.
