Flamengo won the Guanabara Cup in the Under-17 category. To reach the title, the Boys of the Nest beat Portuguesa 5-1, this Saturday (24), at the José Bastos Padilha Stadium, in Gávea. Luiz Guilherme and Ryan Roberto scored twice each, and João Vitor completed the scoring.
All it took was a win for the Red-Blacks to win the competition, as they were tied with Botafogo on 25 points but had a win more (8-7). Daniel Franklin's team didn't want to take any risks and opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Luiz Guilherme, who tapped in on a pass from João Vítor. The tables were turned for the second goal, with João Vitor scoring the second, taking advantage of Luiz Guilherme's assist.
Portuguesa still attempted a comeback and pulled one back in the 15th minute of the second half. They finally calmed down in the 35th minute, thanks to Luiz Guilherme, who scored his second goal and Flamengo's third. Ryan Roberto, who had provided the assist for the third, sealed the score in three minutes, finding the net in the 39th and 42nd minutes. The final whistle ensured the U-17 team's celebration on the Gávea pitch.
Now, Flamengo will face the eighth-placed team in the Guanabara Cup in the quarterfinals of the Under-17 Carioca Championship.
In the Guanabara Cup for the U-15 category, the Garotos do Ninho also lost to Portuguesa. Coach João Marcos' team thrashed their opponents from Ilha do Governador 6-0 and now awaits the final results to determine their opponent in the Carioca quarterfinals. The goals were scored by Gui Queiroz and Leonardo Gabriel, each twice, and Zé Eduardo and Matheus Teixeira.
