Playing at home, the Ninho Boys started the match looking to attack. Just four minutes in, the Red-Blacks created their first good opportunity. Petterson passed to Werton at the edge of the box, and the striker fired a low shot just wide of the post.

Bahia, meanwhile, struggled to get the ball out of their own half and into attack due to the red-and-black team's pressing marking.
