With Galhardo and Diego Maurício, the team presents itself

The Brazilian team begins this Monday (13.12) its preparation for the South American Under-20 Championship in Peru, which gives two places for the London Olympics and four for the World Cup in Germany, in January and February 2011. The group called up by coach Ney Franco arrived at 10am at Rio de Janeiro International Airport, from where they went to Granja Comary, in Teresópolis.
Rafael Galhardo and Diego Maurício, Flamengo's representatives on this team, carry more than just the new yellow and blue jerseys instead of the traditional red and white, but dreams. They're about representing their country in such a major competition, winning a title with the Brazilian national team, and taking an important step toward competing in the Olympic Games.
"It's a great opportunity. What player doesn't want to compete in the Olympics? We know the journey starts here, and if we do well in this competition, we'll take another step toward reaching the Olympic Games. We'll take it slow, step by step, but with the title as our goal," said Galhardo.
After finishing the year as a starter for Flamengo, who achieved their goals of staying in the Brazilian Serie A and securing a spot in the 2011 South American Cup, Diego Maurício is hoping for an even more successful 2011, starting with the Brazilian national team.
"The year ended the way we would have liked given the circumstances we faced, but we know that 2011 has to be much better. Flamengo always has to fight for titles and achievements, and that's what I hope for. Regarding the national team, it's another great opportunity, and I hope to do well and help my country achieve another important result," he noted.
In addition to the two players, Flamengo will also have Dr. Marcio Tannure as a representative on the coaching staff. Twenty-five players will participate in activities at Granja Comary. Training will be interrupted for Christmas celebrations on the 22nd. The players will return on the 26th.
