Based on sheer grit, just like the fans like it. That's how the Garotos do Ninho won the Recopa Carioca Sub-17 on Wednesday night (13), right at the Nilton Santos Stadium. After opening 2-0, with goals from João Vitor and Isaac, Flamengo conceded the equalizer and ended up winning 3-2 over Botafogo, with a goal from Daniel Carvalho, at 49 minutes of the second half.
From the start, the pace of the game was quite fast. The ball moved quickly on the fast artificial turf, to which the Flamengo players are not accustomed, and collisions were inevitable. Both teams sought to attack, but until the 25th minute, the time of the hydration break, there were no clear opportunities for either side.
That's when the Flamengo youth team came in strong. Rafael Tenório delivered a beautiful pass to João Vitor, who got past the goalkeeper and was fouled, resulting in a penalty. João Vitor himself took the penalty, firmly placing it in the right corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance, in the 37th minute. In another moment of great speed, Isaac escaped unmarked and almost found himself alone in midfield.
The second goal came from a beautiful play by Ykaro, who dribbled through the middle and passed to Isaac, who this time sprinted forward and slotted the ball into the left corner of the goalkeeper's net in the 46th minute. Shortly after, the referee ended the first half.
Botafogo had a good chance in the first minute of the second half with a shot that went over the crossbar, and at 2 minutes, the referee sent off Rafael Tenório. With one more player, the opponent began to pressure and scored their first goal at 9 minutes. The equalizer came at 26 minutes and, three minutes later, João Vitor hit the right post with a cross-shot from the edge of the area.
The tie in the scoreline dampened the momentum of the black-and-white team. Flamengo began to have more possession of the ball to work their plays. At 42 minutes, Werneck made a good save after a shot from the right side, at the edge of the area. In stoppage time, Guilherme broke free down the left, entered the area, shot, but the ball was blocked by the defense and went out of bounds. From the resulting corner, Bernardo found Daniel Carvalho, who headed the ball into the net to score the goal that secured the first title for the under-17 category this season.
