With a commanding victory, Flamengo became the fourth champion of the Brazil-Japan Friendship Cup under-15. After eliminating Vasco in the quarterfinals and Atlético-MG in the semifinals, the "Mais Querido" faced Corinthians in the title race and, with great confidence, won 5-0, on Tuesday morning (02.09). With the result, Flamengo became the biggest winner of the competition, alongside Vasco. Previously, the Rubro-Negro had already been champion in 1998, 2000 and 2001.
The championship was held at Zico's team's training center, CFZ, and Galinho himself was one of the organizers. The Flamengo idol emphasized the importance of competitions like this for the development of great athletes. "Thank you to the Flamengo team for participating in the competition. I'm very happy because everything went well. Congratulations to the club for the excellent work being done at its youth academy. What we want to see in this championship is precisely that: constant renewal. For youth academy players to be victorious and increasingly used in the starting lineup. Flamengo has always had youth academy players involved in its history of great achievements," said Zico.
The U-15s entered the field with a solid midfield, capitalizing on space to break into counterattacks. Even without four of their key players, who are on the national team, the Rubro-Negro opened the scoring in the first half with Lincoln's beautiful goal. Later in the first half, Alisson extended the lead.
Flamengo didn't slow down after the restart. The Most Beloved returned with an even stronger rhythm after the break, and soon scored the third with a fast play through Lincoln. Finally, Michael scored twice to seal the victory for the Red-Blacks.
"It's a very important title. We needed to win a national title of this magnitude. This is something to bring joy to all the red-blacks," said Lincoln, who scored two of the winning goals.
President Eduardo Bandeira de Melo and Executive Director of Football Felipe Ximenes were present to watch the final. "Achievements like this are very important. We were very happy to see Flamengo defeat a club as traditional as Corinthians, and by such a large margin. Congratulations to everyone," said the President.
Hours before the red-black victory, Flamengo also emerged victorious in a match against Fluminense in the Under-16 Guilherme Embry Tournament.
