The Brazilian U-20 team, which has two red-and-black athletes, debuted at the category's World Cup with a victory. With midfielder Jajá among the substitutes and left-back Jorge, Brazil beat Nigeria 4-2, on the night of last Sunday (31.05), at Taranaki Stadium, in New Zealand.
The boys' next challenge will be on Thursday (04.06), against Hungary, in New Plymouth, at 4 am (Brasília time).
The game
The first half was breathtaking. Just four minutes in, Judivan found João Pedro racing into the box. The right-back lifted his head and set up Gabriel Jesus to make it 1-0. Six minutes later, with a flick from Nigerian number 10 Ihenachio, Isaac equalized. After good chances for both teams, Nigeria turned the score around, Yahaia converting a corner kick to make it 2-1. Before halftime, Judivan equalized for Brazil, following a backheel pass from Gabriel Jesus.
Brazil returned for the second half with coach Rogério Micale's first change: Boschilia came on for Andreas Pereira. Within 15 minutes, Boschilia turned the game around for the national team, shooting from outside the box into the corner of the Nigerian goalkeeper's net. From then on, Brazil's technical superiority was evident. Boschilia made a good run down the left and fired a shot, but the goalkeeper failed to convert; on the rebound, Judivan scored again, securing the victory for the Canarinho.
