Two-time Intercontinental champion Flamengo's U-20 team returned to the field for the first time after defeating Barcelona in front of 45 fans at the Maracanã stadium. The title was a boon for the "Garotos do Ninho" (Nest Boys), who put in a masterful performance in the 4-0 rout of Fluminense at the Marcelo Vieira Stadium in Xerém. The victory, valid for the fifth round of the U-20 Rio de Janeiro State Championship, featured a hat trick from Guilherme. Joshua completed the scoring.
The game
It was Fluminense who attacked first, twice: a ball into the box that the defense saved, and a long-range shot well saved by Léo Nanneti, into the bottom left corner, all within five minutes. A minute later, Flamengo scored. Guilherme set up Pedro Leão, the striker took a shot, the goalkeeper cleared it, and Joshua slammed the rebound into the net.
The game was very tight from the start, with no major chances. Until the 21st minute, Tricolor had another opportunity with a shot from outside the box. And again, Rubro-Negro was lethal, this time through Guilherme, who fired a shot past Daniel Sales, following a perfect assist.
With complete control of the midfield, Flamengo dominated the entire first half and scored their third goal in the 42nd minute, thanks to a solo play by Guilherme, who dribbled past the goalkeeper and fired a shot into the corner. Flamengo's number 10 scored the fourth shortly after, with another fine play, earning his hat trick.
The pace slowed in the second half, but it was the Ninho Boys who came out on top first, with a cross-shot from Pedro Leão. The ball grazed the Tricolor goalkeeper's left post. The number 9 threatened again two minutes later with a powerful shot saved by the opposing number 1, a beautiful one-touch play. Next, Daniel Sales cut in from the right and crossed, but Pedro Leão and Da Mata couldn't reach the ball with the net empty.
In the 27th minute, another Mengão blitz saw Gusttavo cross and Pedro Leão nearly head it in. The rebound fell to Ryan Roberto, who struck hard, and the ball bounced off the defense. The match proceeded without any major danger until the final whistle.
