Flamengo could have secured its spot in the next round of the Copa São Paulo this Wednesday, but a goal conceded in the 31st minute of the second half left the decision of Group S of the Copinha until the final round of the qualifying phase. The team from Gávea drew 1-1 with Paulista, and took second place in the group based on goal difference. With four points, the team will decide its future on Friday at 16 pm against bottom-placed Taubaté. Paulista faces Shallon.
Inspiring ball control, quality passing, and a strong connection... Flamengo's first half was encouraging. Without any individual standouts, but with the entire group playing well, as the players and coaching staff always emphasized, Flamengo dominated the Paulista in the first 45 minutes of the match. Moving well, the team took 29 minutes to open the scoring through Dudu. The center forward, who models himself after Adriano, made a beautiful play as a pivot, as in the first game of the competition, and fired a powerful shot to make it 1-0.
Despite the goal, Flamengo continued to push for the lead and refused to settle. The Paulista net didn't shake again, but the team went to the locker room feeling calm. However, after a great first half, Flamengo's youth team failed to maintain its rhythm in the second half and was ultimately punished for it. The second half was lackluster, and Flamengo seemed to be comfortably managing the victory. However, they were caught out in the 31st minute. The drop in performance ultimately had more serious consequences. The defense was stunned and saw David Modesto race away and skillfully tap in past Marcello to tie the game.
The result left Paulista in the lead and Flamengo in second place in the group. Both teams had four points, but the São Paulo team had the advantage on goal difference (8-3). Therefore, coach Armênio Moura's team woke up and launched an attack. But it was too late. The score remained unchanged, and the game ended 1-1.
"From the first minutes of the second half, they started to control the game. Flamengo has to win at any cost, and the result is bad. For us, a draw tastes like a defeat. Now we're going into the next game thinking about victory," lamented captain Christianno.
