If coach Armênio Moura's mission wasn't already easy, it became even more complicated this past week. Flamengo, besides having to win all its matches until the end of the Guanabara Junior Cup and hoping for slip-ups from Vasco and Fluminense, will also have to take the field this Saturday at 10 a.m. in Gávea with a severely weakened squad.
On the wings, for example, neither the starters nor their immediate reserves are available. Galhardo will play in the senior squad on Sunday against Friburguense, and Jorbison is suspended. Twins Alex and Anderson are with the Brazilian U-18 team. Michel and Leo are in, then. The midfield lost Dieguinho, injured, and Guilherme will start. Up front, Dudu replaces Diego Maurício, who traveled with the Brazil U-20 team.
With three rounds remaining in the Guanabara Cup, the team trails Fluminense by three points and Vasco by two in the title race. But Armênio Moura's team still believes.
"We have to do our part and root against the other teams, but it's still possible, without a doubt. We'll believe until the end," said striker Dudu.
Flamengo's lineup is made up of Marcelo Carné, Michel, Marlon, Christianno and Léo; João Vitor, Luiz Antônio, Saba and Guilherme; Vinícius Paquetá and Dudu.
