Diego Maurício is Flamengo's U-20 team member

Diego Maurício's football is on the rise, and not just at Gávea. Top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca de Juniores (Rio de Janeiro Junior Championship) with ten goals, the young striker was called up by coach Rogério Lourenço to the Brazilian U-20 national team. Brazil will play an international tournament in Barcelona and also friendlies in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, starting on March 26th.
Diego took part in a training match against Barcelona, from the third division of Rio de Janeiro football, on the morning of this Wednesday (10.03), and had a quick conversation with coach Rogério Lourenço, commander of the National Team and assistant coach to Andrade in Flamengo's professional team.
"I'm very happy with this opportunity and I hope to repay coach Rogério's trust and affection on the field with goals. Playing for the Brazilian national team is always special and I'll try to do my best to do well," said the number 10 of the Rubro-Negro youth team.
The Flamengo striker, by the way, is a longtime acquaintance of Rogério. They've worked together since 2007 at Flamengo. Diego is the only representative from the Gávea team on the trip, and according to the Brazilian team's coach, the center forward has plenty of room for improvement, but he needs to keep working.
"His good performance is nothing new to me. Everyone knows his potential and has a lot of faith in his football here at Flamengo. Diego needs to continue demonstrating this desire and talent every day. It will be good for me, for the national team, for Flamengo, and for him too," said the coach.
Diego had already been called up to the U-20 national team earlier this year. He competed in the Punta del Este International Tournament in Uruguay, scoring two goals and finishing runner-up. Two other Flamengo players also wore the yellow jersey: full-backs Galhardo and Jorbison.
