After the referee blew the final whistle in the Guanabara Junior Cup final, won by Flamengo earlier this month, many asked for Douglas Baggio's jersey, but that Sacred Mantle already had an owner. Little Matheus Leandro, five years old, received the gift, autographed by the Rubro-Negro's professional squad, at Hemorio on Monday afternoon (May 11.05). A relative of Baggio's girlfriend knew Matheus, who will now have the player by his side during treatment for the disease.
"I'll be following his progress. It's great to be around good people," said Douglas. The athlete commented on his visit to the boy on social media. "Know, little Matheus Leonardo, that you made my day and my life much better! I hope to come back here soon, with another surprise that will bring that infectious smile. Keep cheering for our Mengão! I know the debut didn't go as we wanted (Flamengo vs. São Paulo in the Brasileirão), but we'll improve and bring you much joy. Thank you for the incredible day with you and for the letter that I will always keep with me. You are a very blessed boy and a warrior," wrote the player, who was named among the professionals for the Brazilian Championship debut at Morumbi, and is still fighting for the top scorer in the U-20 state championship.
The junior team returns to the field this Wednesday (13.05), against Resende, at 15 pm, for the fourth round of the Taça Rio. The professional team meets the fans again at Maracanã, this Sunday (17.05), at 16 pm, to face Sport, for the second round of the Brasileirão.
