Weverton scores late in the match and the Ninho Boys lift the trophy away from home; the Carioca final will be against Fluminense
By Rafael Rezende - inIn a closely contested game at CEFAT, the Garotos do Ninho won the Taça Rio Sub-17 title by beating Botafogo 1-0 on Sunday morning (20). The red-black goal was scored by striker Weverton in stoppage time in the second half.
THE DEPARTURE
The Mais Querido started the match with a high defense in the opponent's half. Despite dominating the action, the team only managed to create one dangerous chance. In the 31st minute, Carlos Daniel took a shot from distance, which the goalkeeper saved. Given this scenario, the match went into halftime at 0-0.
In the second half, the team had numerous chances until the technical timeout. In the eighth minute, Carlos Daniel nearly opened the scoring. A minute later, Ryan Luka received a pass from Marcos Felipe and was stopped by the goalkeeper. In the 16th minute, Carlos Daniel fired another powerful shot, this time wide. The pressure didn't stop there. With a man up after thirty minutes, Flamengo launched an attack. Ramon Lima made some changes, and the superiority continued. In the 44th minute, Otavio headed the ball against the post, but fate had something better in store. In a beautiful play in the 45th minute, Caio crossed perfectly for the brilliant Weverton to score the title-winning goal. At the final whistle, the Ninho Boys celebrated, lifting another trophy this year and securing a spot in the Carioca final against Fluminense.
