At home, juniors defend the leadership of the State
Flamengo hosts Madureira, in Gávea, and can't even think about stumbling
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - in"In Gávea, we have to assert ourselves." It's with this spirit, revealed by right-back Rafael Galhardo, that Flamengo's young youth team takes the field this Sunday at 10 a.m. against Madureira. Playing at home, the red-and-blacks are defending their lead in the Taça Guanabara, the first round of the Campeonato Carioca. Undefeated in the competition, the team leads the tournament with an advantage in goal difference, but tied with Botafogo on points. Therefore, a victory is crucial.
\However, the red-and-black team's mission won't be easy. Madureira has been giving the club a hard time in the youth ranks in recent years and promises to be a worthy opponent.
\"Their team has quality and plays with a lot of speed. It's going to be a good game, and God willing, we'll come away with the victory and maintain our lead," explained Galhardo.
\One of the strengths of coach Armênio Moura's team is its chemistry. The team, consisting of Marcelo Carné, Galhardo, Marlon, Christianno, and Jorbison; Luiz Antônio, João Vitor, Guilherme, and Dieguinho; and Juninho and Diego Maurício, has been playing together for a long time, which could be a positive factor.
\"The chemistry within our youth team is very good. We've been playing together for a while now, and that helps a lot. The team has already shown its potential, is working hard, and really wants this title," said the right-back.
\Another advantage for Flamengo was their preparation during the week. The young players played a training match against Barcelona, a third-division professional team, and a training match against Flamengo's reserve team.
\"Playing against the professionals is different; it's a more measured game. At the youth level, the game is faster. Training with the senior team is also a great way to show what I can do for Coach Andrade," added the number 2.
\While Flamengo hosts Madureira at the same time, Botafogo will play Duque de Caxias in Caio Martins. Both teams have 20 points from eight games (six wins and two draws), but Flamengo, with top scorer Diego Maurício (ten goals), has a five-goal advantage.
