After a promising start, Flamengo opened up a two-goal lead on two occasions, but ultimately suffered a comeback and lost 5-4 to Botafogo in the first leg of the Campeonato Carioca U-17 final. Flamengo will play the return leg at home and must win the second leg by two goals or more to be crowned champion. If they win by one goal, the title will be decided on penalties.

Flamengo scored the first goal after just 50 seconds, with a shot from Jhefinho from the edge of the box. The pace continued high, and the second goal came in the 8th minute, following a one-two between Diego Guimarães and João Vitor, who sent a low cross to Luiz Guilherme.

Botafogo's first attack didn't come until the 10th minute. Eduardo Clasen then made a good save from an opponent's free kick from the left. In the 16th minute, João Vitor cut through the middle of the box, dribbling past the opposing defense, but missed his shot, straight at the goalkeeper.

After a dangerous play on the right side of the attack, Botafogo was awarded a free kick, this time on the left. Eduardo Clasen made another good save in the 22nd minute. On the next play, João Vitor advanced on the left and sent in a low cross. No one was there to finish. Ryan Roberto crossed from the right, and the opposing defense cleared the ball.

A penalty was awarded to Botafogo, who reduced the deficit in the 31st minute. The following minute, Diego Guimarães crossed from the right, and Luiz Guilherme almost reached the ball inside the six-yard box. In the 34th minute, Lucas Falcone sent a long ball to Ryan Roberto on the left. The striker dribbled past the defender and fired into the right corner, leaving no chance for a save: 3-1.

After the Red-Blacks came close to scoring a fourth goal at least three times, it was Botafogo who pulled one back in the 42nd minute with a solo play. In the 40th minute, Eduardo Clasen made an incredible save on a free kick, palming a ball that went into the left corner for a corner.

Botafogo came out on top in the second half, equalizing in the 5th minute. Eduardo Clasen then had to intervene again, sending a shot over the goal line from outside the box. The opponent's fourth goal came soon after, in the 14th minute.

Flamengo's equalizer came from João Vitor, who pounced on a rebound from a cross from the right and fired home a powerful shot in the 26th minute. Three minutes later, Flamengo conceded their fifth goal, a free kick. In the 41st minute, Eduardo Clasen saved a shot from inside the box, clearing it for a corner with his feet. Coach Daniel Franklin's team fought back until the end, but the fifth goal eluded them.
