In the fight for first place in the Taça Rio, the second round of the Campeonato Carioca, Flamengo's youth team hosts Macaé this Wednesday afternoon at Gávea. After crushing Boavista 7-1 in the last round, coach Paulo Henrique's team has another important home match ahead of them and hopes to repeat last weekend's strong performance to secure not only the three points but also boost confidence for the rest of the competition.
Right-back Rafael Galhardo, who has been standing out in the Taça Rio games, believes the team is on the right track to win the title and the right to face Fluminense, champion of the Taça Guanabara, in the State final.
"Our team is more relaxed, playing more joyful football, and I believe the new coach is helping us a lot. We're training at a new pace, we talk a lot, and I believe the team is improving," said the number 2.
Galhardo believes Saturday's rout of Saquarema shows the team is prepared for the challenges ahead. However, he emphasizes that the team knows it still needs to achieve many results to achieve its goal.
"We're calm. We went into this game with a lot of desire and the result came naturally, but we know we need to do more if we want to be champions. That's our goal and we can't stop there," he said.
The team that faces the beach club Alvianil has already been defined and will take to the field with Marcelo Carné, Rafael Galhardo, Marlon, Henrique and Jorbison; João Vitor, Lenon, Guilherme Camacho and Vitor Saba; Diego Mauricio and Paquetá.
