Coach Fábio Matias was officially announced as the new manager of Flamengo's U-20A team. Champion of the 2020 São Paulo Cup with Internacional, Fábio went to CT George Helal, Ninho do Urubu, on the morning of this Wednesday (21), had his first contact with athletes and coaching staff and has already gone to the field to lead his first training session as Flamengo's coach.
Having played for Guarani (SP), Desportivo Brasil (SP), Figueirense (SC), Grêmio (RS) and Internacional (RS), the 41-year-old professional said he was impressed with the structure offered by the club and ready to continue the excellent work carried out by the club over the last few years.
"Currently, Flamengo is, without a doubt, the biggest club in Brazil in every aspect, and one of the biggest in the world. Furthermore, the structure offered by the Youth Football Department is wonderful, providing perfect working conditions for excellence in the training and development of athletes. This makes any professional working in my field want to be here. It couldn't be any different for me, and when I received the invitation, I didn't hesitate to accept immediately. The process has already been brilliantly led by the professionals here, and I'm here to continue this excellent work," said Fábio Matias.
"I have no doubt in saying that Fábio Matias is one of the top names in youth soccer in Brazil today. We analyzed several names and came to the consensus that he was the best professional on the market to continue the excellent work led by Maurício Souza, who has led our U-20 team since 2017. We are very happy with his arrival; he is delighted to be at Flamengo. I am certain that together we will bring even more joy to the Red-Black Nation and continue to develop more and more athletes for our professional soccer, which is the main objective of youth soccer," said Vitor Zanelli, Vice President of Youth Soccer, Women's Soccer, and Futsal.
Márcio Torres remains as assistant coach of the category, and Luiz Felipe returns to command Flamengo's U-20B team.
