The weekend (November 16.11 and 17.11) is proving to be a special one for the youth teams. The highlight so far is the under-15 team, which won the Taça Rio and secured its place in the finals of the Campeonato Carioca. In the same competition, but in the under-12 and under-13 categories, the boys advanced to the semifinals and will face Vasco da Gama for the title. In the under-17 category, "Mais Querido" competed in another final, while the under-20 team begins its final against Botafogo in the Otávio Pinto Guimarães Tournament (OPG).

After a spectacular second round, in which they scored 16 of a possible 18 points, Flamengo's juniors reach the OPG final to decide the title against Botafogo. The first match will be held at 16 pm this Sunday (17.11/XNUMX) at Caio Martins Stadium in Niterói. The second leg will take place at the Gávea social headquarters next weekend.
"We expect a good derby. Botafogo has been doing very well lately and has made it far in the Copa do Brasil. In the last Guanabara Cup, they got the better of them in the semifinals, but we beat them in last year's OPG Tournament. So, I expect a very even contest, with no advantage for either side," said coach Cleber dos Santos.

A great campaign. That's how the youth team's performance in the Taça Rio (the second round of the Campeonato Carioca) can be summed up. The team reached the final of the first round undefeated and played beautiful football. In the final this Sunday (November 17.11), the red-and-blacks lost to Fluminense and finished second, but the defeat didn't erase the excellent impression the under-17s made. It's worth remembering that, also in 2013, they were finalists in the Copa do Brasil.
"It's been a good year. We always want to win and take the title, but we can't help but understand that we've assembled a competitive team that performed well in the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca. Our group is made up of young people with a lot of unity and Flamengo spirit. They literally wear the jersey to compete well for the club," said coach Celso Martins.

The Guanabara Cup title didn't come, but the Rio Cup trophy (second round of the Campeonato Carioca) went to the Mais Querido. The victory took place last Saturday (16.11), when Flamengo, as a visitor, drew with Botafogo at the Caio Martins Stadium, 1-1, and won the penalty shootout 5-3. On the next two Saturdays (23.11 and 30.11), the Rubro-Negro will decide the Campeonato Carioca with Vasco.
"The game against Botafogo was difficult. We had some anxious moments, but we played a more balanced second half than they did and managed to equalize in the final kick. Our players performed very well in the penalty shootout. For the final against Vasco, I expect very even matches. They are two very evenly matched teams, and our style of play fits in better with theirs," explained manager Zé Ricardo.

With a 4-1 win over Botafogo at the Gávea headquarters last Saturday (16.11), Mirim secured its place in the finals of the Campeonato Carioca. In the first leg of the semifinals at the Caio Martins Stadium, Flamengo had already beaten Alvinegro 3-0 and now awaits the next two weekends to decide the title with Vasco.
The Rubro-Negro's stats are incredible. The team boasts a 100% record in the competition and has won away matches with considerable authority, such as the 5-1 victory over Fluminense and the 2-1 victory over Vasco. Furthermore, top scorer Vinicius is the top scorer in the Campeonato Carioca.
"It couldn't be better. It's a generation, a very good crop. One of the best Flamengo is producing. An extremely competitive group, as well as talented. We have a special affection for this squad, which makes us very proud. They are very dedicated and we are very confident that they can finish the competition with a 100% success rate. Our biggest concern is the development of the young players," said Gilmar Popoca, the team's coach.

After winning the first leg of the semifinals 1-0, the under-12s went to Xerém last Saturday (16.11/2) and beat Fluminense in the second leg 0-XNUMX, with goals from Alexandre Junior and Lucas. Over the next two weekends, the Mais Querido will decide the Campeonato Carioca title against Vasco; the first match will be at the Gávea social headquarters, and the second, at the opponent's home, in Itaguaí.
"We're pleased. When it comes to youth development, the most important thing is development, but if good results come along with it, even better. Being in the final shows we're on the right track in preparing new talent for Flamengo's future," said Junior, the team's coach.
