The U-17 Brazil Cup final has been postponed.
The match will be held on 12/21, at Maracanã.
By Flamengo Communication - inClube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that due to an outbreak of mumps, which has so far affected 13 athletes in the Under-20 and Under-17 categories, in addition to two employees, it sent to the Brazilian Football Confederation on the morning of this Tuesday (11), and was promptly attended to by the Entity, a formal request to postpone the second leg of the final of the Under-17 Brazil Cup between Flamengo and Fluminense, which would be played tonight, at Maracanã.
The CBF confirmed the new date for the match as December 21st, at 8 p.m., at Maracanã Stadium. Tickets that had already been sold are automatically honored for the new date. Information about refunds for fans who purchased tickets but are not interested in attending the match on December 21st will be announced on Flamengo's official channels throughout the day.
In the document sent to the CBF, the club clarifies that it would not have seven athletes due to the outbreak of the disease, a number that could increase until the scheduled time of the match, and requests that the final be held on a new date, thus not causing any harm to any of the parties involved.
Flamengo makes it clear that all athletes and employees affected by the disease were vaccinated, and informs that all standard precautions were promptly taken in all cases, from the onset of the first symptoms of the disease, as explained by Dr. Gustavo Dutra, doctor of the club's Youth Football Department:
"Currently, the full dose of the vaccine provides patients with 80% to 90% immunity to the disease. All affected athletes and staff members were vaccinated and, as a result, presented milder symptoms of the disease. None of them required hospitalization; all are recovering at home, under proper medical supervision. When the first symptoms of the disease appeared, they were immediately medicated, isolated, and removed from any physical, sports, or competitive activities, such as training and games, and placed on complete rest. This is the current policy, and the absence and recovery are for an indefinite period, with each individual's condition reassessed at least weekly. It is also important to note that symptoms appear approximately two weeks after first contact with the virus."
Symptoms include inflammation of the parotid glands, headache, fever, muscle aches, and fatigue. Possible complications include meningitis, pancreatitis, deafness, and testicular inflammation.
